1 Week to go!
Only 7 days to go until the madness begins!
Here are 10 Tips on how to get the BEST Deal this year!
1. Check Out the Ads:
Your local Thanksgiving Day newspaper will be stuffed like your Thanksgiving turkey with ads, coupons, and circulars. This will be your number one source to local Black Friday savings. It will also help you organize your day to maximize savings, since many stores offer special discounts that are time specific. Example: Receive an extra 10 percent off if you shop before 11 a.m.
2. Do Your Research Before Friday:
If you are hoping to scoop up a deal on Friday on a big-ticket item, go ahead and get your research out of the way as soon as possible. A bad product is a bad deal no matter how cheap it costs. Being knowledgeable about the products you want to buy will help you avoid being sucker-punched with loud advertising for poor products. About.com is chocked full of buying advice on a wide variety of products from professionals who have the knowledge to help you make good decisions.
3. Compare Prices:
Utilize price-comparison Internet shopping sites such as PriceGrabber.com to assist you in comparing product prices. Compare the "options" included with the product. Some retailers will low-ball the advertised price on a stripped down product, and then you will be charged extra for the necessary parts that will make the product perform as expected. A good example of this is often seen with super low-priced computer printers that come without the cable (cord) or printer ink.
4. Look for Early Bird Shopper Discounts:
The Early Bird Shopper will be the real winner on Black Friday. Stores offering early-day shopper specials usually run the deals from 5 a.m. until 11 a.m. and with no "rain checks," which means once they run out of the products, you are out of luck. Scanning the ads and routing your trip based on your buying priorities will be important with the time-sensitive deals that will be offered.

5. Beat the Crowds with Night Owl Discounts on Thanksgiving:
Internet shoppers can beat the early birds by shopping online in the pre-dawn hours of Black Friday. Many retailers will be posting their Black Friday specials, which can be ordered online and picked-up at your local store. Special "Web only" deals will also be available starting as early as Thanksgiving eve. Many of the the aggressive outlet malls and factory stores will be opening Thursday at midnight, with early bird promotions in hopes of capturing your dollars before the competition has opened.
List of Black Friday Midnight and Early Bird Sales at U.S. Outlet Malls
6. Bring the Ads:
Many stores offer a "lowest-price" guarantee; however you may be required to produce a copy of the exact product being advertised for less. Most local retailers will not meet Internet prices even when the product is advertised on the same company's website, but it cannot hurt to try. Print the Web page that details the product and shows the advertised price. It may give you additional bargaining power and push the sales person into waiving other charges such as assembly fees.
8. Know the Store Policies:
Knowing the store policies on returns can help you determine where to buy. A previous trend of extending "return days" during the holidays is being seen less this year. Many retailers are including restocking fees and shorter return deadlines. Almost all of the major retail chains have clamped down on requiring receipts for returns and exchanges, and many keep a database of individuals who tend to abuse return policies. If you get onto an "abuse" list, prepare yourself to be turned down.
The Small Print On Return and Free Shipping Policies
The Hidden Costs of Restocking Fees
9. Ask for Gift Receipts:
Gift receipts generally include a description of the item purchased but do not disclose the price paid. Including gift receipts inside the gift box will make returns or exchanges easier for the gift recipient. Without proof-of-purchase, the recipient may be turned down for returning or exchanging the item or risk receiving an exchange for the current selling price of the item.
Keep That Receipt! Tips on Returning Gifts Hassle Free
Since many retailers begin permanently slashing prices as soon as Black Friday is over, the difference between what you pay for a gift during December and what it sells for in January can be significant. Including a gift-receipt should help insure a hassle-free return experience for gift recipients.
10. Saying "Charge It" Can Pay Off
Obviously, there is no bargain in running up high credit card bills and paying big interest rates, however, with proper spending disciplines intact, using the right charge card can be of value to consumers. Many credit card companies entice consumers with free benefits, which include extended free warranties, return protection and sale price protection.
Warranty Coverage - Your credit card company may offer to double or triple a manufacturer's warranty for free on a product you purchase - a good option instead of purchasing a service contract that costs money and has a shorter duration period.
Return Protection - A credit card company may guarantee a refund on a product up to 90 days where as the store may not. This is becoming particularly more important as retailers stiffen the allotted return days.
Sale Price Protection - Some of the credit card companies will offer this protection and refund you the difference if a product you buy is marked down further than the price you paid within a certain time frame (usually 60 days).
An enormous amount of advertising, locally and online, can be confusing and nearly paralyzing to the Black Friday bargain hunter. To maximize the benefits of hitting the stores on a day where there are big crowds and a better deal around every corner, developing a plan and doing preliminary research will help insure that the day is a shopping success.
Have fun saving money while you shop!

Thanksgiving History and Your Festivity Preparations
In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn't until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.
I don't know what your food traditions include, but my day would not be complete without deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, and a cheeseball! What is it for you that makes Thanksgiving the ideal meal of the year? Well, here are a couple of great recipe ideas for my favorites. Please share yours!
Deviled Eggs are always a perfect dish for the holidays. We have these every year.
Ingredients
- 12 hard boiled eggs
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup dill pickle relish (mmm, my secret ingredient!)
- 1 tbsp mustard
- salt & pepper
- dash of cayenne
- paparika
Method
Now, on to the cranberry sauce...No matter what anyone says, the gooey perfection straight of the can is the BEST! Mmmm.
My grandpa makes the best cheeseball ever! I have no idea what the secret ingredient is that makes it so great, be here is a great recipe for shrimp cheeseball, a perfect addition to any Lowcountry Thanksgiving!
Ingredients
- 2 (8 ounce) packages fat-free cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 (4 ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped
- 1 (4.25 ounce) can tiny shrimp, drained and chopped
- 2 tablespoons wasabi paste, or to taste
- 1 cup toasted sesame seeds, divided
Directions
In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, soy sauce, water chestnuts, shrimp, and 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds. Gradually stir in wasabi paste until you reach the desired amount of spice. Cover and refrigerate for one hour.
- Remove the cheese mixture from the refrigerator, and shape into a ball. Roll in the remaining sesame seeds to cover. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Santa Chase!
SANTA CHASE 5K
December 4, 2010, 9:00 A.M.
The Santa Chase is a unique 5K fun run/walk occasion. On December 4, 2010 – runners from far and wide will take to Coligny Beach. As in most 5K events, the runners want to complete the course in the fastest time. However, the members of the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Sports Management class felt it necessary to add another twist. During the course of the race, runners may be surprised as out from the sand, road signs, and trees college students will appear! The students will be appropriately clothed in Santa hat and tinsel and of course there will be (jingle) bells. Each Santa holds a small gift ready to be received; the Santa is required to give the individual that catches him (or her) said gift. Tagging Santa is allowed; however, tackling will land you on the Naughty List. Trophies and medals will still be given out at the end of the race. The race will be fantastic fun and there is a wonderful celebration afterwards.
Participants that preregister receive a free t-shirt and all winners receive awards. Entry donation is $25 before December 1, 2010 and $30 after that. Hope to see you there!
All monies will benefit the Hilton Head Humane Association, and all donated shoes will go to Soles4Souls.

Stay in Shape the Sneaky Way!

Do you keep looking at the mirror and wish you could get rid of that "gut", tone those arms and legs, but just do not have the time to dedicate yourself fully? Don't' worry. I just went on the net and found some really great workout routines, you can do with that busy schedule of yours. Here are some suggestions:
1) When walking the dog:
Chase your pup fives times every doggy outing, and you'll burn 98 calories per 20-minute stroll.
2)Watching TV with the kids? Get a bounce ball and do this:
30 minutes on the stability ball can burn more than 100 calories.
3)Coffee break in the kitchen? Make it productive by:
Try resistance push ups against the side of a table. Place your hands on the sides of the table, contract your abs and lower yourself with your arms. Push back up. Do three sets of 15." Or do three sets of 15 squats.Five minutes of resistance push ups or squats burn 48 calories—right in your kitchen.
4)Like listening to upbeat music?:
Thirty minutes of treadmill rocking burns 170 calories. Researches have studied, when upbeat music is on during your workout, more calories are burned effortlessly.
5)Waiting at the doctor's office? Well make your wait productive and do:
A 30-minute mix of power walking, stair climbing, and wall squats burns 238 calories.
6)On Facebook, twitter, myspace etc for a bit?:
Facebook while riding at a light effort for 30 minutes and burn 197 calories.
7)Need to clean the house?:
A 20-minute mop workout burns 83 calories.
8)Have to cook dinner?:
Mashing garlic, dicing veggies, and tossing salad is surprisingly strenuous.
30 minutes of culinary sweat burns 60 calories. Get chopping.
9)Make brushing your teeth fun and healthy:
Tilt your hips forward and backward while contracting the buttocks muscles.
Rumba for three minutes when you brush twice a day, and you'll burn through 140 calories a week—or 10 calories every dancing brush.
10) TV & cardio:
Do standard crunch sit-ups and forearm planks. Place your elbows directly under your shoulder, forearms and palms on the floor. Lift your body in a straight line, hold for five seconds, relax and repeat.
Exercising through three TV breaks takes about 10 minutes, burning 70 calories.
I can't wait to see your results! Time to start the day and get motivated effortlessly. Get fit the sneaky way. Let's Go!!!

"Nothing to Do" in Hardeeville?
Think again! Hardeeville and the surrounding areas are rich in history and natural wonders! Have you ever seen the Argent Lumber Engine #7? Or what about the Sergeant Jasper Park?
The Argent train Engine No. 7 was donated to the town of Hardeeville upon the closing of the Argent Lumber Company. This narrow gauge train is a rarity and attracts many people from across the nation. This wood burning steam locomotive with balloon smoke stack was built by the H.K. Porter Company around 1910. It was used by the Argent Lumber Company to haul timber from forest to mill. In 1960 the locomotive was donated to the City of Hardeeville for public display as a testament to the role that the timber and lumber industry played in the economic growth of Hardeeville.
The County owned Sergeant Jasper Park offers 132 acres of trails, picnic areas, and fishing lakes. It is also home to “The Sarge” a disc golf course popular with players from all over the southeast. Plans are underway to expand the trails, establish canoe or kayak waterways, and provide rustic cabins for week long stays in the park to enhance the enjoyment of the many species of waterfowl, reptiles, and native plants, all in an undisturbed wetland habitat.

New Furry Family Member?
We are delighted when residents add a furry friend to their families. While we are a very pet friendly community, we ask that you keep in mind that all pets must be registered with and approved by the Property Manager. Pet visiting and sitting are not allowed due to damages that may occur as a result.
In order to complete the registration, your pet must be physically brought to the office for a photo and staff introduction, vet records must be submitted, and a pet fee of $300 for one (1) pet or $500 for two (2) pets must be paid. While there are no size limits, breed restrictions do apply. Unauthorized pets will not be accepted.
Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the pet owner to clean up all pet waste immediately. Pet stations are located throughout the community to aid in doing so. Failure to clean up after your pet will result in fines starting at $50.00 per incident. If the problem persists, removal of your pet will follow.
